Mark Sams is a musician and luthier who has been playing guitars and basses similar to the products he makes for over 50 years. A hobby grew into a small business (or a hungry beast) out of necessity as the time and resources (money) required to build a quality instrument are great. Each guitar is a labor of love and inspiration and Mark has come to realize that when you love what you do there aren’t enough hours in the day.
Mark and his wife Cindy Gill-Sams are both health care professionals who believe having active, achievable goals are key to a healthy life, whether that is building instruments, playing in their band “Common Folk”, or helping others through our licensed therapeutic professions.
Father Phillip Gill (1935-2005)
Gill Texas Guitars is named for Cindy’s beloved husband Phillip, an Episcopal priest and Gunsmith who passed away in 2005, leaving his most precious wife and inspiration to her eventual next husband, Mark. He also left a shop and many tools that converted nicely to the creation of fine Guitars, and Mark immediately knew he had to honor this fine man, his wife, and his children by naming the Guitars we make for him.
Gill Texas Guitars is a family owned, faith-based company that we hope will be passed on to the Gill children someday.
